A natural therapy in which warmed stones are positioned on parts of the client’s body to maximize the therapeutic benefit and can be added to 90 min sessions. The stones used are typically river rocks or very smooth surfaced stones made of basalt. These stones are heated in water before use. The high iron content in basalt helps the stones retain heat during the service. Hot stones are beneficial on both physical and psychological levels. Always check with your doctor before adding hot stones; individuals with certain conditions—including pregnant women and people with high blood pressure—are advised to avoid this type of therapy. The heat from the stones helps your muscles relax, allowing your therapist to manipulate your tissues more effectively. Overly tense muscles can hinder the procedure, so if your muscles are extremely tight or stiff, the heated stones may provide the extra relaxation you need for the session to be beneficial in releasing tension and easing sore muscles. Because the hot stones allows your therapist to penetrate deeper, you may find that a hot stones leaves you feeling physically better than a swedish or deep-tissue service that does not incorporate heat. Typically, the heated stones are set to rest on trigger points in your body before beginning the actual body-work. As the heat from the stones penetrates into your deeper body tissues, your blood vessels open, resulting in improved circulation. Poor circulation can lead to fatigue, which tenses the muscles, and a buildup of lactic acid in the muscles. Increased circulation delivers more oxygen to the muscles, which can help ease aches and pains. You may find that the relaxation afforded to you through a hot stone session helps ease some of your mental stress and tension. A hot stone session may also help you combat some of the symptoms of anxiety disorders and depression.
This added enhancement that can be incorporated into your scheduled session and adds no extra time. Intrinsic therapy is beneficial on its own; however when it is used in conjunction with essential oils, these two therapies can be synergistically more beneficial than when they’re performed separately. Migraine & Sinus Relief
This service can be booked separately or as an add-on to your scheduled session as it adds an additional 30 minutes. This service is great for clients suffering with migraines/headaches, TMJ and sinus problems. A three-pronged approach is implemented which includes aromatherapy, facial massage and cold therapy in which are very effective in helping relieve the pain of migraine sufferers and the congestion of sinus sufferers. Marble is the ideal choice for use in cold stone therapy. At room temperature, marble is 11 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than any stone in nature. The stones have been cut to various shapes and sizes designs to work specific areas. They act as a powerful decongestant to help diffuse inflammation, help relieve puffiness and dark circles around the delicate eye area, and improve skin tone. They work extremely well on the sinus areas to relieve pain and congestion. When combining the use of hot towels with cold marble stones, the resulting vasodilation and constriction of the blood vessels encourages cleansing and nourishment, using fluid and wastes out of the tissue.
